The Unit-08 Color Breakdown
The EVA 08 theme translates the mecha's operational colors into a usable daily driver palette. Alphas wear a desaturated olive drab—close to military surplus green, not bright anime neon. Modifiers shift to warm cream-white, the same tone as Unit-08's armor plating in Evangelion 3.0+1.0. Coral-pink escape and enter keys pull from the Eva's eye and accent lighting. The result reads as a subdued earth-tone set until the pink accents catch light; subtle enough for office use, specific enough for fans who recognize the reference.
No shine-through legends—dye-sub infuses pigment into PBT, so the dark grey characters sit flush with the key surface and won't wear off with use.
How XDA + PBT Actually Feels
XDA profile is flat: every row shares the same height and sculpt, unlike Cherry or OEM where each row angles differently. The uniform surface means no reorientation when moving between number row and spacebar. PBT's natural texture adds fine grain under fingertips—less glide than ABS, more feedback. The combination suits users who rest fingers on home row and roll to reach keys rather than lifting and striking.
No wrist angle compensation built into the caps; flat profile pairs well with low-angle keyboard cases or wrist rests for extended sessions.
Common Questions
Does this fit my Keychron K2 / K4 / Q1?
Yes. The K2 (84-key) and K4 (100-key) use standard Cherry MX stems and non-proprietary bottom rows—this set covers both. The Q1 (75%) uses 82 keys; you'll have spare caps left over. Check your keyboard's spacebar width (6.25u is standard and included; some compact boards use 7u, which this set does not provide).
Is dye-sub better than double-shot for this price?
At $59.99, dye-sub is the expected process for PBT theming. Double-shot PBT requires thicker walls and more complex molding, typically pushing prices past $80-90. Dye-sub achieves the same permanent legends by gas-infusing dye into heated PBT—characters don't sit on top, they are the plastic. For non-backlit builds, dye-sub PBT is the practical choice.
What case colors work with this set?
The olive-cream-pink palette pairs with: e-white or silver cases (clean contrast), forest green or olive anodized aluminum (monochromatic extension), or black cases (the pink accents pop against dark backgrounds). Avoid bright red or blue cases—color competition with the coral accents.
