More about this keycap set
-----|-------------------|----------|
| Cherry 128 Keys | Sculpted rows, shorter total height | Each row angled differently for finger positioning |
|---|---|---|
| XDA 123 Keys | Uniform flat top across all rows | Consistent surface plane, no row-to-row variation |
The Cherry profile follows the classic staggered-height design where each row sits at a different angle and elevation—R1 through R4—creating a natural arc for finger travel. The XDA-like variant flattens everything to a single plane, which some users find more predictable for non-standard layouts or heavy layer usage where row identification matters less.
Both versions use the same PBT material and dye-sub quality; the choice comes down to ergonomic preference rather than build differences.
How PBT Dye-Sub Holds Up
PBT's inherent density resists the shine that develops on ABS keycaps over months of contact. The matte surface texture here is consistent with mid-grade PBT—slightly grainy, not glass-smooth. Combined with dye-sublimation, where heat transfers dye into the plastic itself, the result is legends that physically cannot wear off since they're part of the material rather than a surface layer.
At 350g total weight, the set has the heft typical of thick-walled PBT rather than thin, hollow-feeling caps.
Compatibility Notes
The Cherry 128-key kit and XDA 123-key kit both cover standard ANSI layouts from 60% through full-size. Cherry MX stems (plus Gateron, Kailh, and other clones) fit without issue. The set includes only keycaps—no keyboard, no stabilizers, no tools.
Common Questions
Is the Waves colorway hard to match with keyboard cases?
The olive green alphas pair naturally with black, dark gray, or silver cases. The cream modifiers soften the contrast enough that even beige or off-white chassis work without clashing. Avoid pairing with bright primary colors or heavy RGB backlighting—the muted tones here work best under neutral conditions.
What's the difference between Cherry and XDA-like profile in daily use?
Cherry profile's sculpted rows reduce finger reach distance and align with how most people naturally curl their fingers. XDA-like's flat plane requires slightly more vertical finger movement but offers identical feel across all rows, which some prefer for uniform keycap appearance or non-orthodox typing angles. Neither is objectively better; Cherry dominates for touch-typing efficiency, XDA-like for visual consistency and certain ergonomic setups.
Does dye-sub work for backlit keyboards?
No—PBT dye-sub legends are opaque. Light will not shine through the character areas. If you need RGB shine-through, look for PBT+PC or ABS double-shot sets instead. The Waves set blocks light entirely, so backlighting would only illuminate gaps between keys.
